Elgin crash causes injuries
A dump truck and a pickup truck crashed Saturday morning in Elgin, injuring a 61-year-old man and requiring a helicopter to transport him, police said.
The accident happened between 7:20 and 7:30 a.m. at Route 20 and Nesler Road on Elgin's west side, Public Information Officer Sue Olafson said. The intersection has been closed since that time, and officers are routing traffic around the scene. Olafson said the intersection likely will be closed until 11:30 a.m.
The 61-year-old man was driving a Dodge Dakota pickup truck east on Route 20 at Nesler Road, and an unidentified driver of the Ford S350 dump truck was turning left on Route 20 from northbound Nesler Road when the crash occurred. Nesler Road ends at Route 20, causing drivers to either turn left or right at the intersection.
Elgin police and fire responded first to the scene and a Flight For Life helicopter later was called to take the 61-year-old to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Olafson said. The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team also assisted, Olafson said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, authorities said.
