Wis. officer suspended for jail force incident

FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- A Fond du Lac police officer accused of using excessive force on a handcuffed prisoner will receive a three-day suspension.

Police Chief Tony Barthuly says Officer Joel Gudex will also receive remedial training for his actions that resulted in a handcuffed prisoner's head striking a table at the Fond du Lac County Jail.

The Fond du Lac Reporter newspaper says 49-year-old John Lund suffered a severe head cut after Gudex grabbed Lund by his clothes near his neck and pushed Lund onto a table in the booking room. Lund had been arrested after an incident at a local hotel and a foot chase with police last month.

Barthuly said in a statement Wednesday that while Gudex's actions were not illegal, he failed to follow proper procedures, such as requesting backup for an unruly prisoner, when he arrived at the jail.
