Waukesha police standoff ends in arrest

WAUKESHA, Wis. -- Police in Waukesha have arrested a domestic abuse and robbery suspect who they say barricaded himself in his apartment.

A police statement Thursday said officers had been keeping an eye on his residence since a robbery Wednesday to see if the 51-year-old man had returned. Shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday, his wife called police to say he was there and armed with a knife. She was able to leave, and police set up a perimeter.

The Waukesha Police Tactical Unit and members of the county SWAT team were called out. Shortly before 3 p.m., officers fired unspecified "chemical munitions" into the apartment. The suspect exited within minutes and was arrested unharmed.

Police say the man is facing charges of domestic abuse-related disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
