Plane makes safe emergency landing at Wis. airport
APPLETON, Wis. -- A private jet carrying a family of six made an emergency landing in Wisconsin after developing a problem with the landing gear.
WBAY-TV reports that fire departments from across the area responded Thursday morning to the Outagamie County Regional Airport in Appleton and waited for the Hawker 800 jet.
The station reports the jet was on its way to the Eau Claire area from Cincinnati. But after discovering the problem, the pilots decided to attempt a landing in Appleton because of repair facilities there.
Kim Sippola, marketing manager for the airport, says the landing gear was not down the first time the pilots made a pass by the control tower. Then they tried some emergency procedures that eventually worked.
The station says the family didn't want to speak on camera.
