Ind. traffic judge suspended for 30 days
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indiana Supreme Court has suspended a Marion County judge accused of mishandling traffic court cases.
The Indianapolis Star reports that Superior Court Judge William Young reached an agreement with the Indiana Commission on Judicial Qualifications on Tuesday under which he will be suspended without pay for 30 days.
The commission had filed charges in July alleging that Young imposed substantially higher penalties against traffic court defendants who chose to have trials and lost.
Young didn't offer a formal response to the charges. The judge didn't return a phone call seeking comment Wednesday.
Young has been in charge of Indianapolis' traffic court since January 2009.
