Gages Lake principal sports new look for holiday

He hadn't had a haircut in over two months. But on Monday students from Woodland Elementary East in Gages Lake had the privilege of shaving Principal Kenneth Hyllberg's head.

The makeover event was held at Woodland East's schoolwide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) assembly at 9:15 a.m. at the school, 17261 W. Gages Lake Road, Gages Lake.

The main objective of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports is to establish the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional and academic success.

PBIS was implemented districtwide this fall.

As part of the behavioral framework, when students exhibit appropriate behavior, they receive reward “ROAR” tickets. ROAR represents Respect, Ownership, Acceptance and being Ready to Learn. This daily expectation is taught to all students.

The tickets were placed in a bucket and on Wednesday, three students were chosen to be pressed into service as a barber.

“I am exceptionally proud of the behavior students have been demonstrating and all their hard work,” Hyllberg said.

“I'm looking forward to my new look for the Thanksgiving holiday.”
