When you know the facts, Boeger plan not so scary
In a letter published in Tuesday's Neighbor Fencepost, the first paragraph has two errors in it. The writer rails against a 36-person mental health facility across from Buffalo Grove High School. There are NO plans to have 36 residents (in fact, far fewer) in the building.
When I checked yesterday, the businesses located across the street from BGHS are: To the west, you have Aldi's, at the southwest corner the Melting Pot restaurant and Walgreens and on the south side of Dundee Road one finds a gas station.
Next to it (going east on Dundee Road), there are various fast food restaurants.
There are no plans to squeeze Boeger Apartments into that area.
In fact, going south on Arlington Heights Road, the gas station, Brown's Chicken and the Firestone building must also be passed in order to find Boeger Road. Unless the high school students make a real effort, they will not find the facility.
The residents there would not be criminals unless depression, bipolar disease, etc. have suddenly become crimes.
Just because a letter is typed, you cannot conclude that it is a form letter. Some of us have good penmanship, some of us do not and don't wish to have a handwritten letter tossed aside because of bad handwriting.
I can assure you that my letters are my own thoughts and I am a longtime resident of Arlington Heights who is in favor of this project. (Incidentally, the planners did not intend the facility to house only residents of Arlington Heights, hence there would be letters from nonresidents supporting Boeger Apartments).
It is time for changes in attitude regarding mental illness. When statistics show that one in five citizens have such a problem, it may affect you or your loved ones in the near future.
Closed minds need to be opened.
