Apartment fire displaces Naperville residents

A pinched electrical cord may have started a fire that left a Naperville apartment uninhabitable Saturday night.

Several people called 911 after the window of an apartment on the 700 block of Benedetti Drive turned “sooty” and became warm to the touch around 8:15 p.m., Naperville Fire Department Battalion Chief Michael Veseling said.

A fire was found in the first-floor living room of the apartment, which was deemed under control within five minutes of firefighters' arrival. The fire caused over $120,000 in damage, Veseling said.

The three residents of the apartment, who weren't home when the fire started, stayed with friends Saturday night. There were no injuries.
