OUTLOOK: Steve Ikenn is likin' it. After 12 seasons as an assistant coach at Stevenson, Ikenn replaces Roger Lass, who stepped down after last season and is now an assistant coach at Carmel. Ikenn inherits a team that won 19 games and returns its starting five as well as several players who got a lot of varsity minutes last winter. When Ikenn was at Stevenson, the Patriots were known for their tenacious defense and were successful. So guess how Ikenn wants his Rams to play? “I want us to be a tough, hard-nosed defensive team,” he said. “There will be nights when our shots may not fall, but if we play solid defense, we will be in every game.”

Back are 6-foot-1 all-area center Rebekah Llorens (11.6 ppg, 8.8 rpg), who made an immediate impact as a junior after being home-schooled previously, as well as all-area guard/forward Skyler Jessop (10.8 ppg), forward Kat Dickson, guard Alex Scarbro and guard Maddy Miller. Seniors Scarbro and Dickson are starting their fourth season on varsity. Fellow senior Miller handled the point last season. The junior Jessop was promoted to varsity late during her freshman year and emerged last season. The veteran backups include Roxy Acoff, Claire Brennan and Colleen Daly. Two newcomers to watch are 5-10 junior Beth Arnold and 6-foot freshman Morgan Dahlstrom. “If we stay healthy, focused and take care of the little things, we can have a very successful season,” Ikenn said. “This is a veteran team with strong leaders, and we should be a strong contender in the Fox Division of the Fox Valley Conference.”
