OUTLOOK: A 14-14 record two seasons ago. A 14-14 record last season. Another 14-14 mark this season? The Sequoits, who, funny enough, have 14 players on their roster, are aiming for a winning season. The potential appears to be there with a team that graduated only one starter in athletic forward/guard Allie Anttila and returns maybe the NSC Prairie's best backcourt in veterans Andi Potkonjak and Lindsey Gofron.
Both the senior Potkonjak (17 ppg last season) and the junior Gofron were varsity starters as freshmen. Both are very active defensively and can handle the ball in a traffic. No wonder coach Tim Borries recently implemented a dribble-drive, motion offense. “I got the ballhandlers,” Borries said. “I figured, ‘Let's do it' ” Senior forward Lauren Tiffany, who returns at a forward position, is all hustle and can provide offense. At 6 feet 1, three-sport athlete Jessica Ploss provides the Sequoits an inside presence. Ploss got plenty of playing-time and even starts last season, as did senior forward Nicole Kelly, whose sophomore sister Brittany is also on the team. Sophomore Megan Borries (the coach's daughter) was a midseason call-up last winter and has the potential to develop into one of the area's best perimeter shooters. While the Sequoits boast a veteran starting lineup, the bench has a lot of inexperience. Potkonjak, Tiffany and Nicole Kelly are the only seniors on the roster, which also includes 10 juniors.
