Antioch woman charged in attack
An Antioch woman faces criminal trespassing and endangering the life of a child charges after entering a home and attacking the resident while she holding a child, authorities said Friday.
Latasha Hilliard, 33, of the 800 block of Anita Avenue, could spend up to three years behind bars if found guilty of endangering the child during the attack Tuesday evening, Antioch police Chief Craig Somerville said.
The victim was home with her 2-year-old daughter in the 400 block of Filweber Court at 10:41 p.m. when Hilliard entered the apartment and began “wildly punching” the victim, Somerville said.
Hilliard allegedly punched the victim in the face and head, and struck the child in the face and mouth during the attack, he said. Hilliard continued attacking the victim, who ran into the living room attempting to shield the child from further injury.
Hilliard fled on foot, but was arrested a short time later at her own residence, Somerville said.
The victim suffered scratches on her face, cuts on her forehead and lip. The child suffered a scrape on the right side of her mouth, Somerville said. Neither required hospitalization, he added.
Somerville said jealousy over Hilliard's ex-boyfriend seems to have been the motive for the attack.
Hilliard was charged with two counts of battery, and single counts of criminal trespass to a residence and the felony of endangering the life of a child.
Hilliard is in custody at the Lake County jail on $5,000 bond. She is due back in court Dec. 1.
