Illinois-Chicago beats Toledo 57-51 in Classic

TOLEDO, Ohio — Robo Kreps scored 20 points and Paul Carter added 14 as Illinois-Chicago held off Toledo 57-51 on Friday night in the Toledo subregional of the 2K Sports Classic.

Illinois-Chicago (2-1) led 27-22 at halftime, but struggled to find any rhythm offensively as the Flames shot 19 of 48 (39.6 percent) from the field.

The Rockets (0-3) also struggled from the floor, shooting 17 for 43 (39.5 percent) as a team.

Free-throw shooting proved to be the difference as UIC made 14 of 16 (87.5 percent) attempts, while Toledo shot 13 for 23 (56.5 percent) from the line.

UIC led by as many as nine points, 33-24, with 13:32 left to play in the second half.

Hayden Humes notched his first career double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for the Rockets in the loss. Anthony Wright led Toledo with 15 points and J.T. Thomas added 10.
