Downers Grove man accused of playing doctor again
A 75-year-old Downers Grove man who has served time for practicing medicine without a license was back in jail Thursday on the same charge.
DuPage County Judge Liam Brennan set bond at $150,000 for Eugene L. Miller, the state's attorney's office said.
Miller is accused of practicing medicine on a female victim in early August, despite not having a medical license in Illinois or any other state.
Court records show Miller was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison, restitution, and 30 months of probation in 2005 after pleading guilty to the same offense.
In the earlier case, Miller was accused of “treating” two people while purporting to be a chiropractor and keeping an office in Downers Grove.
According to court records, he used a machine with metal rods to treat one of the victims for Hodgkins Lymphoma, a form of cancer. Miller told the other he could cure diabetes through “magnet therapy” and by hooking the victim to a machine with wires and pads, the allegations say.
Miller will remain in the county jail unless he can post $15,000 to secure his release in the latest case. His next court date is Dec. 13.
