Scouting Metea Valley girls basketball

Metea Valley

Coach: Kris Kalivas.

Last year: First year of varsity play.

Top players: Anna Petersen, so., F; Lori Obendorf, so., C; Alyssa Fox, so., G; Bria Walker, so., G; Megan Geldernick, so., G.

Scouting report: Kalivas, coach at Waubonsie Valley for six seasons, starts from scratch at Metea. "It's the second time in my coaching career I don't know what to expect," she said. Metea's JV team did fare well last season, going 19-5. Added to the mix is Walker, who showed flashes of potential playing varsity at Naperville North as a freshman. She is recovering from a torn ACL suffered in February. Geldernick was another ACL victim over the summer; she could be back on the floor by January. Petersen and Obendorf, both 6-foot-1, are versatile posts who can also play on the perimeter. Kalivas likes how Fox sees the floor and wants her to have the ball in her hands. Much is still up in the air. "We have a lot of potential," Kalivas said. "It's how they adjust to the pace of the varsity game."
