Carmel presents zany 'You Can't Take It With You'

Carmel Catholic High School's Fine Arts Department stages the final weekend of its fall play, “You Can't Take It With You,” which opened Sunday. Performance dates are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 19-20, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, in the high school's auditorium, 1 Carmel Parkway, Mundelein.

The play involves the story of the zany Sycamore household, where everyone does what he or she pleases, oblivious to societal norms. Despite the nuttiness of the Sycamore family dynamics, great love and joy prevails. In contrast are the Kirbys, stuffy and uptight. As the story unfolds, their worlds collide as Alice Sycamore and Tony Kirby fall in love. Twists, turns and lots of laughter are the result of the characters' lives lived light-years apart.

“The play is very funny and highly entertaining,” said Denise Sebastiano, theater director at Carmel. “Our students are working very hard on this production, and I know audiences will be pleased. It's a great show.”

A cast of 31 students and 58 technical, properties, makeup and costume crew members have been rehearsing and set building for the Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy since September.

Tickets cost $5 for students and $8 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased through the ticket hotline at (847) 388-3450 or at the door on the day of the performance.
