Mundelein man sentenced on gun charge linked to attempted bank robbery

A Mundelein man has pleaded guilty to aggravated use of a firearm for his role in the attempted robbery of a local bank in June, police said Tuesday. Kenneth Shannon, 49, of the 1200 block of North Midlothian Road, will not go to prison as a result of the guilty plea, but instead was placed on 24 months probation.

While on probation, he may not have any contact with employees of the bank and must forfeit all weapons authorities seized the day of the incident. Other charges were dropped as part of the plea agreement, police said.

Shannon was arrested June 2 after an attempted robbery at First Midwest Bank, 1500 Allanson Road. No money was stolen. Shannon pleaded guilty in Lake County circuit court Nov. 9, police said.
