Entries accepted for logo design contest

The City of Naperville is continuing to accept entries from budding artists and designers through Wednesday, December 1 for the Naperville Smart Grid Initiative logo design contest.

The smart grid initiative is an investment in Naperville's city-owned utility to modernize the electric grid using the latest digital technology to increase reliability, reduce operating costs, improve efficiency and reduce waste. This forward-thinking project gives residential and business customers more choices about how they use electricity and more control over what they pay for it. More information about the smart grid initiative is available at www.naperville.il.us/smartgrid.aspx.

“We have already received several excellent logo submissions,” Community Relations Manager Nadja Lalvani said. “I am impressed with the quality and creative designs that have been submitted. It's great to see our utility customers and other participants so engaged and involved in illustrating what the future of electricity looks like.”

People of all ages and artistic abilities are encouraged to submit a logo that visually depicts the smart grid. Logos may be designed by hand using any medium (e.g. crayons, markers, colored pencils) or with the assistance of electronic design software. A person may submit an optional tagline with his/her logo entry to be used at the city's discretion. To enter the contest, visit www.naperville.il.us/smartgrid.aspx to download an entry form. All completed forms should be e-mailed to smartgrid@naperville.il.us; hand-delivered to Executive Assistant to the City Council Reggie Lynch at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St.; or mailed to City of Naperville, Attn: Reggie Lynch, 400 S. Eagle St., Naperville, IL 60540. Individuals submitting entries created with electronic design software are asked to please e-mail the source file to smartgrid@naperville.il.us and e-mail a portable document format (.pdf) of the design to the same e-mail address.

All entries are due by Wednesday, Dec. 1. From Dec. 3-15, members of the public are invited to view and vote for their favorite logo at www.naperville.il.us/smartgrid.aspx. Mayor A. George Pradel and city council members will select a winning logo from the 10 logos that receive the most online votes. The winning artist will be notified via phone by Mayor Pradel and be publicly recognized at a January 2011 city council meeting.
