Election no rejection of Obama

Since the election, the Republican Party has been allowed to spew the “big lie” that the American People have rejected President Obama's policies. Presumably, all 300 million of us have swung far to the right and abandoned the president.

The right has not been called out by the media. In fact, not even the liberal media has faced them with this preposterous untruth.

A quick glance at the election returns will tell us that slightly more than 50 percent of the voters in some districts elected or retained Republican candidates and in other districts, slightly over 50 percent of the voters elected or retained Democratic candidates.

The swing voters in this election appeared to be those whose personal economic situation has been affected by the recession's drag on the job and housing markets and those of the far left who felt that the president has not gone far enough. The first group will always blame the party in power and the second group sat on their hands and let the “right” win.

I personally object to the conservative spokespeople being allowed to lump all of us into a made-up group of disaffected “American People.” The Republican Party also states that they will reduce the size of government and the deficit. No Republican administration in recent history has even tried to accomplish either of these goals.

The biggest deficits of the 20th century have come from Reagan and the Bushes. At least Bush Sr. had the courage to try to control the deficit by raising taxes. The Republican administrations have also extended the reach of government by advocating the imperial presidency and trying to reduce the power of Congress.

Compared to them, the Democrats are rank amateurs in growing government.

I ask the media to please call out the Republicans as well as the Democrats when wild and untrue statements are presented as “fact.”
