Chicago keeps restaurant association convention
Chicago's convention business got another boost after a new state law helped cut costs at the mammoth McCormick Place.
City and state officials announced Monday the National Restaurant Association signed an agreement to keep its annual convention in Chicago through 2016.
Changes were made to cut labor costs at the city's main convention center because the city had been losing business to less-expensive locations like Orlando, Fla., and Las Vegas.
The office of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley reports other trade shows and conventions have also committed to Chicago since changes were made to make it less expensive for exhibitors.
Daley said the sprawling lakefront McCormick Center would be empty if lawmakers hadn't acted.
