Northwestern QB Persa out for season
Northwestern quarterback Dan Persa will miss the rest of the season after rupturing his Achilles' tendon on the game-winning touchdown in a 21-17 victory over No. 13 Iowa on Saturday.
Persa threw for 318 yards and two fourth-quarter touchdowns, the second the play he was injured on and that gave the Wildcats a 20-17 lead. He was helped off the field before the extra point with 1:22 to play. He was scheduled to undergo surgery Saturday night.
His 20-yard TD to Demetrius Fields capped Northwestern's winning drive. But while the Wildcats were celebrating, Persa was on the ground clutching his right leg.
He wasn't hit on the play, but coach Pat Fitzgerald says Persa heard a pop.
