Put focus on people, not party
American politics reached an astonishing low just before the election, when we heard one of the leaders of the opposition party, Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, declare that if his party won the majority in the House or Senate, he'll spend the next two years not serving the people, as he is elected to do, but serving the Republican Party for the 2012 election and working to defeat President Obama.
Haven't we had enough of self-serving politicians and the “Party of No” over the past two years? With leadership comes responsibility, and what the Republicans have shown thus far is irresponsible.
We, the constituency, are waiting to see what conservatives have to offer to move this country forward. There was a time when Congress worked together on the “people's business.” Do you remember? Regardless of your political gains in the recent election, Republicans, we need to hear about your plans for our future -- not your future. When we look upon American history, Democrats/liberals/progressives strive to make things better for everyone: Social Security, Medicare, minimum wage and civil rights.
Republicans have always fought and continue to fight against these things. We've had enough of you fighting on behalf of your corporate masters with a single-minded sense of purpose: money, money, money.
President Obama has made a good start with the Health Care Bill, passing the stimulus, thus generating jobs, equal pay for women, SCHIP expansion, credit card reform and stem cell research as some accomplishments, What are you congressmen going to do for the people?
