Fa-la-la-la ferret this Christmas?
When out shopping for the upcoming holidays, it might be a good idea to consider bringing something fuzzy home this year. There are plenty of animals out there in rescues and shelters that need homes for Christmas.
One rescue in particular, the Greater Chicago Ferret Association, needs a lot of help this season. The facility can comfortably hold about 100 or so ferrets, and the current number of ferrets has skyrocketed to 136.
To lessen the surplus, the GCFA has started a campaign called Home for the Holidays, where all adoption prices are cut down by over half, and older ferrets are completely free. That makes the price for a ferret less than a fourth of what the usual pet store price is, and you would also be giving the ferret a second chance for a home.
I have personally both adopted from and volunteered for the GCFA, and I can say that it is truly a great organization and would recommend it to anyone considering adopting a ferret.
Don't be swayed by all the negative rumors you may have heard about ferrets in the past. With the energy and friendliness of a dog, and the independence of a cat, I can assure you that they make great family pets, plus, they're nonallergenic.
Ferrets bring a lot of entertainment and fun into the house. If you're even considering bringing a new family member into your home his Christmas, I would encourage you to give the GCFA a chance.
