Scouting Homewood-Flossmoor at Naperville North
No. 4 Homewood-Flossmoor (9-2) at No. 9 Naperville North (8-3)
Class 8A quarterfinals
Game time: 7:30 p.m. today.
How they got here: Homewood-Flossmoor beat Curie 41-14 and Waubonsie Valley 34-28 in double overtime. Naperville North beat Marist 27-14 and York 29-10.
Outlook: Even though Homewood-Flossmoor came within a half yard of not winning last week, the Vikings offer a wicked spread, shotgun offense that feeds into the matchup of the night against the Huskies' stingy defense. Vikings running back Malik Norman has been dominant all season but especially in the playoffs. He's notched two straight 200-yard games to give him 1,800 rushing yards on the season and 28 touchdowns. Quarterback Tim Williams has added 1,700 passing yards. While Huskies linebacker Nick Lifka is a premier run stuffer, linemen Brandon Williamson and Mike Kang each had a sack last week. Naperville North's offense hopes to stick to its formula after quarterback Matt LaCosse, who's accounted for 1,971 total yards, and running backs Nick Sianta and Antonio Owens combined for 164 rushing yards against York. After a strong first half against Marist and an even better second half last week, Naperville North's eager to put a full game together.
Advancement: Winner plays winner between No. 2 Lyons Twp. (10-1) and No. 3 Mt. Carmel (9-2).
