Thinking of good of the community

It's a shame that the six police officers were released last week in Naperville. In a declined economy there is only so much income the city has to work with across all departments that provide the needed services.

We also feel it's a shame that the officers had to negotiate a 9 percent pay increase at this time while others either don't have a job or have not had pay increases to pay for higher costs.

The Lisle-Woodridge Fire District faced the same dilemma, but they handled the situation so that they retained all of their men and women by foregoing raises at this time and with the use of some furlough days.

Their desire to stick together took precedence over higher pay for the remaining, making them a true Band of Brothers (and sisters). Congratulations should go out to those who look beyond their own self at this time and think of the good for the community.
