Illinois basketball scouting report

Toledo (0-0) at Illinois (1-0)

When: 7 p.m. at Assembly Hall

Web: ESPN3.com; Radio: WIND 560-AM

Skinny: Illinois faces its second new coach in three days as Bruce Weber's bunch wraps up its pre-Madison Square Garden portion of the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer. Green Bay's Tod Kowalczyk took over a 4-win Toledo program and promptly lost his leading scorer to transfer. The Rockets are picked to finish last in the Mid-American Conference, but Illini fans will recognize former Michigan sharpshooter Anthony Wright. He transferred in as one of those graduating senior exceptions that allows a guy to play his fifth year elsewhere without sitting out. Weber wants to see more of the defensive chokehold that his guys put on UC Irvine during the first 18 minutes of Monday's opener. He also hopes to give his four freshmen more than the 40 minutes they played as the Illini need to be rested for an intriguing game Saturday night against Southern Illinois and Weber protégé Chris Lowery.
