Opposition party seen as 'enemies'?

I couldn't believe what I heard today listening to the radio on my way home. I heard, “I am president. I'm not king. I can't do these things just by myself. If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying we're gonna punish our enemies and we're gonna reward our friends . . . .”

Wait, did our president just encourage a group of voters to “punish our enemies?” What “enemies” would he be talking about? Is he talking about the terrorists who attacked us on 9/11? Or is he talking about extremists who still want to harm us?

No, I'm afraid he is talking about his political opposition he is referring to the minority in the House and Senate as “our enemies.” He is demonizing conservatives and independents in an effort to encourage a group of voters to vote with him to punish who he feels are his enemies.

Never before in my life have I ever heard a president of the United States refer to his political opposition as “enemies.” What kind of person does this?
