Toddler found after wandering off into Wis. woods

WAUPACA, Wis. — Authorities in central Wisconsin have found a 2½-year-old girl who wandered off from her grandmother's house near Waupaca.

The Waupaca County Sheriff's Office says the grandmother was watching her three grandchildren playing in her yard in the Town of Dayton around noon Sunday when toddler wandered off into a neighboring public hunting and fishing area.

The sheriff's K-9 unit started a search, backed up by the Wisconsin State Patrol, local fire and ambulance services and a number of family friends and volunteers.

After about a 30-minute search, officers found the girl in a heavily wooded area about a half-mile from her grandmother's house.

A sheriff's department news release describes her as "very scared and frightened, but not injured." She had been lost for about 2½ hours.
