BBQ ignites deck in Lombard
Fire officials think a barbecue grill started a fire in Lombard that ignited an entire deck early Sunday evening.
Firefighters responded to a call from a neighbor at 6:05 p.m. reporting that the back deck of a home on the 300 block of West Sunset Avenue in Lombard was on fire and spreading to the home, said Lombard Fire Chief Chuck Ralis.
Crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, but the fire damaged the side of the home resulting in an estimated $50,000 in damages, Ralis said.
A husband and wife were home at the time, but were already out of the house when the first responders arrived.
No one was injured during the fire, which preliminary investigations believe was started by a barbecue grill on the deck, Ralis said.
The home is still livable, but the back of the house will need to be boarded up Monday morning, Ralis said.
Firefighters from the Lombard Fire Department were assisted by crews from Oak Brook and Addison.
“It was a pretty quick knockdown,” Ralis said. “The guys did a nice job.”
