Stocks start week lower as dollar gains

NEW YORK -- Stocks are falling in early trading after closing last week at their highest levels in more than two years.

Broad market indexes are down more than 0.3 percent in trading Monday morning.

With no major economic reports scheduled for release, traders are taking a second look at a rally that has pushed market indexes to levels not seen since Lehman Brothers collapsed in September 2008.

The dollar is rising more than 0.5 percent against a broad basket of currencies. The euro is falling from recent highs amid new concerns about national debts among countries in the euro zone.

The Dow Jones industrial average is down 50, or 0.4 percent, to 11,394. The S&P 500 is down 5, or 0.4 percent, to 1,221, and the Nasdaq composite is down 6, or 0.3 percent, to 2,573.
