Voices of reason do exist out there
After reading the Nov. 4 Fence Post it seems clear that many if not most people are disgusted by the ugly, nonproductive campaigning that dominated this year's election. We were besieged by junk mail and intrusive robocalls, few of which described the candidate that sent them. Instead, millions of dollars were wasted trash-talking their opponents. If the rhetoric is to be believed, then we were left to choose between one person of questionable character and another. It is no wonder so many people do not vote.
In Brian Murphy's letter, he suggested that readers visit coffeepartyusa.org. I checked it out and found nonpartisan, civil, sane ideas with a stated goal of reforming campaign finance laws. The “Fix Congress First” section really says it all. Perhaps if candidates had less money to spend, they would use it to actually address issues. And I'm all for term limits. How about a flat tax?
Thanks to Brian for the tip.
