Teen killed in Des Plaines hit-and-run crash

Police are looking for the driver of a car that hit a 17-year-old boy, leaving him dead in the road, and then left the scene of the accident in Des Plaines Friday night.

At about 6:20 p.m. Friday, police responded to a call at 906 E. Algonquin Road and discovered the teen lying on the road, according to Des Plaines Police Midnight Shift Commander Dan Niemann.

The driver in the accident fled the scene before police arrived, according to a news release.

The boy was a pedestrian, Niemann said. The boy's identity has not been released, pending family notification. An autopsy is scheduled today by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The accident occurred in the westbound lane of traffic approximately 50 feet east of Third Avenue, police said. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
