Sugar Grove likely to seek 26 percent tax hike
The village of Sugar Grove is expected to ask for 26 percent more in property taxes next year, but expects to only collect about 3 percent more, according to a levy request the board discussed this week.
A public hearing on the levy request is at 6 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Municipal Center, 10 S. Municipal Drive. The village has until Dec. 28 to turn its levy request in to the Kane County clerk.
The village is asking for $3.94 million in property taxes. It expects, however, to abate $1.6 million of those taxes, earmarked to pay down six loans for water and sewer improvements with money from the water and sewer fees.
Sugar Grove, like other government bodies, typically asks for more than it expects to receive, to make sure it gets all it's entitled to once the clerk applies property tax extension limits (also known as the property tax cap) to its levy request.
Taxes from the 2010 levy will be collected in 2011.
