Man charged in C'ville sex assault of child
A Kane County judge set bail at $1 million Thursday for a man charged with sexually preying on a young Carpentersville girl over a period of eight years, beginning when she was about 5 years old.
Victor M. Ponce, 32, of the 2800 block of South Hamlin Avenue, Chicago, is accused of sexually assaulting the girl, whom he knew, repeatedly at her home in Carpentersville from 2001 to 2009, according to court documents. Prosecutors said the girl, now 14, recently came forward with the allegations.
Ponce surrendered to police and was taken to bond call Thursday, where Judge Leonard Wojtecki set bail at $1 million and ordered him to have no contact with minors. He would have to post $10,000 to be released.
Ponce is charged with two counts each of predatory criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse, the most serious of which is a Class X felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison, according to court records.
There was no attorney listed for Ponce. His next court appearance is Nov. 12 in front of Judge T. Jordan Gallagher.
