Lake Co. sheriff to conduct alcohol, tobacco checks
Lake County sheriff's officials announced Thursday the results of the most recent round of alcohol and tobacco compliance checks at businesses. The compliance effort started Oct. 18 and ran for two weeks.
Funded by cash from a state of Illinois, sheriff's investigators conducted 83 compliance checks throughout the unincorporated areas of Lake County.
Sheriff Mark Curran said none of the businesses sold tobacco to the 17-year-old decoys used in the operation. As for alcohol, 20-year-old decoys tried to buy alcohol at 10 businesses in Beach Park. No alcohol was sold or served to the decoys.
In unincorporated Lake County, 32 businesses were checked for alcohol compliance. One was cited for selling alcohol to a minor and another was issued a warning for the attempted sale to a minor. In Long Grove, two businesses were found compliant in undercover checks.
βI am very pleased with the outcome of both our alcohol and tobacco compliance checks,β Curran said. βIt's good to know Lake County businesses are looking out for our young people more often these days.β
