2 charged in Homewood bank robbery

The FBI says authorities have arrested two people from south suburban Robbins in the armed robbery of a US Bank branch in Homewood.

Robert Grant, Special Agent-in Charge of the Chicago FBI office, says prosecutors charged 36-year-old Justice McCallister and 23-year-old Tiffany Jones with bank robbery on Wednesday.

Grant says Homewood and Hazel Crest police arrested the two about noon Tuesday after a brief foot chase and an exchange of fire with officers, in which Jones was wounded.

Grant says McCallister was armed with a handgun and Jones had a submachine gun when they entered the bank and ordered employees and customers to lay on the floor. They reportedly fled the bank with two cash-filled backpacks after locking the employees and customers in a vault.

It was not known if either defendant had an attorney.
