Huntley grandpa impressed by kids

I am a 62-year-old grandfather and have lived in Huntley for only about four years. I am not a “public” person, but now that I have spent four Halloweens here, I have something which simply needs to be said.

Every year it is my job to “man the door” and this year was no different. Manning the door is a great part of Halloween for me. This year I would guess we had about 50 or 60 kids come trick-or-treating. Of these 50 or 60 kids, 100 percent of them were nice, polite, beautiful youngsters.

Some of them had their mom or dad or both with them. One of them, a sweet little girl dressed all in black, with little ears on top of her head, was being carried by her mom who explained that she was a “baby bat.”

One of them was so small that his dad had to carry him up to the door. The child had a pacifier in his mouth and when I asked his dad if he was going to eat all of the child's candy, he assured me he wouldn't.

my point is that I love living in Huntley. Every year I am so impressed with the way our young generation is being raised. They are obviously loved and well cared for. Nearly all of them said thank you. Baby bat may have been too small to talk, but I think her Mom said it for her.

The parents of all of these children should be very proud of them, as I am sure they are. They should also be proud of themselves for doing such a good job. Every year you make one old guy's life a little happier.
