Carol Stream firefighters save dog from blaze

An early morning fire in Carol Stream destroyed one townhouse and caused minor damage to another, authorities said Wednesday.

No injuries were reported in the blaze. Firefighters were able to rescue a family dog hiding under a bed.

“It (the blaze) was rolling pretty good when police got there,” Carol Stream Fire Protection District spokesman Don Lay said. “When our guys arrived, they realized it was a pretty extensive situation.”

The roof of the building collapsed into the attic, Lay said.

Firefighters responded at 3:06 a.m. to the fire on the 100 block of Goldenhill Street. Police on the scene reported fire coming from the second floor of the three-unit townhouse located north of Lies Road and West of Gary Avenue.

Lay said six residents escaped unharmed but have been displaced.

The two-alarm fire drew 41 units from 15 fire departments and took about 90 minutes to extinguish. Damage was estimated in excess of $100,000 and the Red Cross responded to help the displaced residents.

The DuPage County Arson Task Force is investigating, something Lay said is routine for such fires.
