Arlington Heights food drive under way
The Arlington Food Drive will run through Nov. 23 in Arlington Heights under the direction of Lavelle Law Charities and The Grand Station Restaurant.
Kerry Lavelle, a graduate of St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights, and founder of Lavelle Law Ltd., initiated a food drive seven years ago in Palatine to assist the Palatine Township Food Pantry. “Our business has been well-served by many clients here in Arlington Heights and we felt it was time to expand our charitable efforts into this community as well,” said Lavelle. “We are very pleased to be working with The Grand Station (restaurant) on behalf of the Wheeling Township Food Pantry.”
Drop-off locations include Grand Station Restaurant at 101 W. Campbell St., Peoples' Bank at 1104 S. Arlington Heights Road and 41 S. Vail Ave., Arlington Theaters at 53 S. Evergreen Ave., Metropolis Theatre at 111 W. Campbell St., all Arlington Heights Park District centers, the downtown and Arlington Park Metra stations, and Liposuction & Cosmetic Surgery Institute, 1700 W. Central Road.
Lavelle provides collection boxes, signage and labor to pickup the donations from each site on a regular basis and deliver them to the township.
Grand Station General Manager Dusko Filimonovic said he is pleased to be a partner in the effort. “The Arlington Food Drive is what I see this town being about and I am very pleased that The Grand Station will be a part of it.”
Lavelle said he also will call upon his contacts in the local food and grocery industry to assist with donations. “We are one of the few law firms with a specific practice group in grocery law,” he said. Lavelle Law Ltd. was the Palatine Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year for 2009, recognized in part for the charitable events run by Lavelle Law Charities.
