Boeger apartments should be stopped

Boeger Apartments here's the latest wrinkle in the developer's attempt to get approval for this 36-person mental health facility across from Buffalo Grove High School.

Due to strong community opposition back in May, the developer failed to receive village approval for their mental health facility. Mayor Mulder, disregarding the community's wishes, begged them to reapply and come back for a second vote.

Due to local opposition from surrounding land owners and by village ordinance, the developer now needs a super majority (six votes) from the trustees in order to gain approval.

Recognizing the difficulty in getting six votes, the developer sent a letter to the Village of Arlington Heights last week threatening them with a discrimination lawsuit.

The village of Arlington Heights has bent over backward to accommodate this developer, but their project simply doesn't make sense for the Boeger location. There are too many zoning variances required and too many unanswered questions about the project itself. The project was turned down based on its merits, or lack thereof.

This Chicago developer is doing business “the Chicago way” and doing whatever it takes to get its $10 million in IHDA funding. The clock is ticking on their funding and village approval is required, so this developer won't hesitate to besmirch the mayor, village board and Arlington Heights itself in order to protect their taxpayer funded bounty.

While there is growing opposition from the community, the developer continues to force its ill conceived project down our throats. Most support for this project comes from form letters sent by people who don't even live in Arlington Heights.

It's time to say a final and resounding “no” to the Boeger Apartments.
