Barrington resale shop raises funds for families in crisis

House of Hope Resale Shop, Barrington, will host a Holiday Open House Wednesday evening, Nov. 10, through Saturday, Nov. 13, to benefit St. Anne's Project Hope, providing emergency assistance to local families in crisis.

Volunteers have been preparing for the event, which includes six festive rooms of new and vintage furniture, entertainment and gift items, a magical toy land, seasonal clothing and accessories, china, linens and other items amid a forest of sparkling lighted trees and trimmings. Guests will also enjoy music, complimentary refreshments and prize drawings.

“Our Holiday Open House grows every year through the generous support of donors and volunteers,” said Peggy Sobolewski, Project Hope chairwoman. “We are carrying forward the vision of Project Hope's founder, Sr. Lorraine Menheer, whose commitment to community outreach ensured that families in crisis were cared for, especially during the holiday season.”

Menheer died from pancreatic cancer earlier this year.

“We're pulling out all the stops for our biggest fundraiser yet, to ensure we can answer all calls for assistance in the months ahead,” Sobolewski said, explaining that requests for services from local families have increased 35 percent this year.

“Get a little shopping done and know that you're helping others, in the true spirit of the season,” said Caryn Habley, House of Hope store manager.

The shop will be closed during its regular daytime hours Wednesday, Nov. 10, to prepare for the evening sale from 6 to 9 p.m. House of Hope will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the following Thursday through Saturday, with new merchandise arriving daily.

House of Hope Resale is at 200 N. Hough St. in the Market Center Shops of downtown Barrington. Free parking is available. For information, please call (847) 756-4673 or visit hohresale.org.
