Wolves rally past IceHogs
The Chicago Wolves rallied to erased an early 2-goal deficit with 3 unanswered goals and held on for a 3-2 victory over the Rockford IceHogs at the Allstate Arena on Saturday night.
Mike Siklenka, Jaime Sifers and Nigel Dawes scored for the Wolves (5-4-1-0), and goaltender Peter Mannino turned aside 22 shots in his first start of the season.
Siklenka notched what proved to be the game-winner with a power-play goal at 10:48 of the third period.
Darren Haydar took a shot, collected his own rebound, carried the puck behind the net and slipped a backhanded pass to Siklenka for the goal.
“We've had good second- and third-period efforts the last three games,” said Wolves coach Don Lever. “We're still making mistakes, but I like the way we competed to come back from a 2-0 deficit.”
The IceHogs jumped out to 1-0 lead at 13:01 of the first period when Brandon Pirri worked a give-and-go with Nick Leddy. Pirri finished off the play.
The IceHogs (4-4-0-1) pulled ahead 2-0 when Leddy beat Mannino 17:08 into the first period.
Dawes got the Wolves on the board 13:21 into the second period to make the score 2-1, as Haydar earned an assist centering pass for a quick flip past IceHogs netminder Alec Richards (26 saves).
The Wolves tied it 2-2, with 63 seconds remaining in the second period. Jared Ross fired a shot down the slot that goalie Alec Richards got a piece of but Sifers came crashing in and pushed it over the line.
