Fire damages Bartlett mobile home

A mobile home in Bartlett was severely damaged by a fire that started near its hot water heater after the owner was working on it early Friday afternoon.

Firefighters from the Bartlett Fire Protection District were called to 113 12th Avenue at 1:29 p.m. Friday after the mobile home's owner discovered the fire and evacuated.

The first units at the scene found the home well involved with fire and received reports of two oxygen cylinders inside. Two of the cylinders released their contents during the fire.

The homes on either side of the unit were evacuated as a precaution, but no one was injured in the blaze.

Responding fire companies had to bring in water due to the mobile home's location in a rural response area. Firefighters from Hanover Park, Streamwood, West Chicago, Roselle, South Elgin, Itasca, Elk Grove, Glenside, Geneva, East Dundee, West Dundee and Hoffman Estates assisted in putting out the fire.

The estimated damage to the building was $50,000, while loss to the contents inside was estimated at $15,000.

Fire investigators could not be reached Saturday say whether the exact cause of the fire had been pinpointed.
