False fire alarm causes evacuation of Kane County Judicial Center
The Kane County Judicial Center in St. Charles was evacuated Friday morning due to a false fire alarm, firefighters said.
St. Charles Fire Batallion Chief Scott Swanson said a faulty smoke detector went off on the second floor shortly before 10:30 a.m., leading to an activation of the courthouse's overall alarm system. There was no sign of fire, he said.
The building at 37W777 Route 38 was cleared of hundreds of people, including the public, attorneys, judges, bailiffs and other courthouse staff, who waited on the front lawn.
Firefighters began letting people back into the building about 10:40 a.m.
