Elgin woman poses as doc to get painkillers

An Elgin woman, who admits she is addicted to painkillers, has been arrested for securing the drugs by misrepresenting herself as a doctor to an East Dundee pharmacy, authorities said.

Jamie E. Raddatz, 33, of the 38W000 block of Kristin Drive, was charged Thursday with three counts of unlawful acquisition of a controlled substance by fraud, it was detailed during a bond hearing Friday morning.

Police say Raddatz called the Walmart pharmacy four times within seven days, pretending to be the doctor who had previously written her a prescription for a medical procedure.

They say she used a doctor's official Drug Enforcement Agency identification number last Friday and Saturday to secure Tylenol with codeine and on Monday to obtain Norco, a combination of acetaminophen and hydrocodone.

Acting on a tip from the doctor, officers arrested Raddatz at Walmart Thursday afternoon when she tried to pick up another dose of Norco she'd arranged with the same DEA number, Police Chief Terry Mee said.

“I saw a chance and I took it,” Raddatz said during her Friday morning bond hearing.

Also during the hearing, she said she is on a waiting list to receive treatment for her addiction.

Her father presented Kane County Judge Bruce W. Lester with evidence that shows Raddatz is 10th on a waiting list to enter a six-month rehabilitation program in Indiana.

Lester set her bail at $3,000, which means she needs $300 to get out of jail while her case is pending. As a condition of her bond, Lester ordered Raddatz to avoid unsavory people and to stay at her parents' house.

“If you violate your bond, you're going to blow everything,” Lester warned.

Raddatz is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 12 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

If found guilty of one of the felony charges, she faces between one and three years behind bars.
