Charges pending in St. Charles child's beating
Charges are pending against a man suspected in the beating of a 2-year-old girl who was found severely injured at a St. Charles motel this week, police said Friday.
Police spokesman Paul McCurtain said the man was taken into custody about 2 a.m. Friday at a house in Batavia.
Authorities responding to a call from the Super 8 Motel on the 1500 block of East Main Street found the child shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said when the child was found she was unconscious and not breathing with bruising around her head, eyes and mouth. She was taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva and later airlifted to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, where she remained listed in critical but stable condition late Friday afternoon.
Further details about the suspect in custody weren't released, but authorities said Thursday they have been interviewing the victim's family and acquaintances.
Police said they intend to seek charges against the man once the investigation is complete.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call St. Charles Police Cmdr. Jerry Gatlin at (630) 443-3739.
