Batavia district, 2 schools don't make AYP
Batavia School District 101 received a failing grade on its annual report card because several subgroups of students didn't attain the minimum state standards required for a passing grade.
This year, 77.5 percent of students had to meet state standards for a school to pass. The achievement tests were administered in the spring, and the results announced by the state Friday.
Districtwide, 67.4 of black students and 67.7 percent of economically disadvantaged students did not make Adequate Yearly Progress a measurement determined by state and federal No Child Left Behind guidelines on the reading portion of the examination. The black students subgroup also failed to make AYP in mathematics.
Students with disabilities also didn't make the standard, with 62.1 percent of the group meeting the standard in reading and 67.9 percent in mathematics.
All the district's elementary schools passed. Rotolo Middle School and Batavia High School did not.
Rotolo missed AYP since its subgroup of students with disabilities found 66.9 percent meeting or exceeding standards in reading, and 65.3 percent in mathematics.
At Batavia High, 73.5 percent of the white subgroup the only ethnicity at the school large enough to be deemed a subgroup for testing purposes met or exceeded the state standards.
