St. Charles police find severely beaten child

St. Charles police are investigating the circumstance surrounding a severely injured child discovered at a hotel Wednesday morning.

Fire and police personnel received an emergency call at 8:13 a.m. from someone at the Super 8 Motel in the 1500 block of East Main Street. Upon arrival, they found an unconscious, unresponsive 2-year-old child who also was not breathing. The child had notable bruising around the head, eyes and mouth, police said.

Fire department personnel stabilized the child and rushed the child to Delnor Hospital in Geneva for treatment. The child's injuries were so severe that the child had to be airlifted to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield a short time later. The child was listed in critical but stable condition as of Thursday afternoon.

Police are conducting multiple interviews with the child's family members and friends, but the investigation into possible criminal charges is ongoing. The police ask that anyone with information about the incident to call Investigation Commander Jerry Gatlin at (630) 443-3739.
