Round Lake Beach home damaged in fire
A Round Lake Beach fire late Thursday afternoon has left a single-story home uninhabitable, fire officials said.
Fire crews responded to the home on the 1400 block of North Cherokee Drive at 4:36 p.m. after a neighbor reported seeing smoke, said officials from the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District.
Officials said the fire started behind a bedroom wall when a socket shorted out due to a downed power line, which was blown down by the wind.
No one was in the home at the time, and no firefighters were injured during the blaze, officials said.
The fire was out within 20 minutes of crews arriving on the scene. Crews from the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District were assisted by the Fox Lake Fire Department.
