Creepy crawlers in Libertyville

Take a drop of water from the Des Plaines River, put it under a microscope, and a whole new world appears.

Small creatures that inhabit our waterways, called macro-invertebrates, will be discussed at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1 at the Lake County Audubon Society meeting.

Jim Bland, who co-founded the aquatic management firm “Integrated Lakes Management” will explore these creatures using photos and possibly live specimens. Bland received the Illinois Lake Guardian Award in 2002 for creating Illinois' first sanctuary for endangered and threatened species and is currently writing a field guide on macro-invertebrate identification.

The free 90-minute program will be at the Libertyville village hall, 118 W. Cook Ave.
