CLC student dies in Antioch crash

An 18-year-old College of Lake County nursing student was killed in a one-car crash on Deep Lake Road, police officials said.

Kylie Brown, of Antioch, was a passenger in her boyfriend's car when it crossed the oncoming lane of Deep Lake Road, and went off the pavement and into a ditch before hitting a driveway embankment, Antioch Police Chief Craig Somerville said.

The driver, Shawn Carlson, 19, of Antioch, also was injured in the crash about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, Somerville said.

Brown and Carlson were both members of the Antioch Police Explorers group.

Brown, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car, Sommerville said.

Officers on patrol near Hidden Creek subdivision discovered the accident, called for rescue and administered CPR to the victims, Somerville said.

Brown was taken from the scene to Aurora Medical Center, Kenosha, Wis., where she was pronounced dead, Somerville said.

Carlson was taken by Flight for Life to Centegra Hospital-McHenry where he was treated for serious injuries, Somerville said. He has since been released from the hospital.

Somerville said the accident is under investigation, but there was no indication drugs or alcohol were factors. He added no citations have been issued at this time.

“She was a good kid who did whatever she could for her friends and the explorer post,” Somerville said. “She was extremely well liked by the officers and the others in the group.”

The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team is also investigating, he said.

Deep Lake Road was closed for four hours following the accident.

Visitation is set for Friday at Strang Funeral Home of Antioch, 1055 Main St, from 3 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services and Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St Ignatius of Antioch Episcopal Church, 500 E. Depot St., Antioch. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery East, located on Depot Street just west of the church.
